The HITRIplus project was featured in a keynote presentation by Yiota Foka during the International Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering (CMBEBIH 2025), held in Sarajevo from 11–13 September 2025. The conference, themed “From Science to Business,” gathered researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives from across the biomedical and technological fields.
Yiota’s talk followed directly after the conference opening. Building on her 2023 presentation, where she introduced HITRIplus and its plans, she provided an update on the project’s progress, achievements, and growing impact in Bosnia and Herzegovina—particularly through the involvement of students from the University of Sarajevo (UNSA).
Several UNSA students have since participated in HITRIplus Schools and the Hadron Therapy Symposium in Thessaloniki (October 2024). Their engagement and networking experiences have led to the successful participation of UNSA in the IFIGENEIA Horizon project. Yiota also highlighted the valuable contributions of the Three Physicists Foundation, which continues to promote accelerator science at UNSA in collaboration with CERN and other HITRIplus partners.
Inspired by the presentation, many participants visited the booth dedicated to hadron therapy to learn more about ongoing initiatives and supporting projects through banners, leaflets, and videos. Numerous attendees expressed their appreciation for the visible progress achieved under HITRIplus and their interest in potential future collaborations.
The CMBEBIH 2025 conference, structured around three main pillars—Policy & Vision, Science & Innovation, an
d Collaboration & Future—provided an excellent platform for dialogue across disciplines. Its sessions, hackathon, and networking events encouraged participants to exchange ideas and explore synergies between academia, industry, and policy. Notably, the lively hackathon and hands-on activities drew strong interest from students and young researchers, the dynamic human capital essential to future advances in biomedical engineering and healthcare technologies.
Overall, CMBEBIH 2025 offered a vibrant international platform where science, innovation, and policy converged to foster sustainable collaboration and real-world impact.
